💡 The Basic Rule: Verb in Second Position

In a statement (Aussagesatz), the verb is always in second position.

Note: "Second position" means the second element (could be a word or phrase), not the second word.

💡 Sentence Types in German

1. Statement (Aussagesatz) — Verb Position 2

Ich komme aus Syrien.
Jetzt wohne ich in Berlin.
Mein Bruder arbeitet in München.

2. W-Question — Verb Position 2

Wo wohnst du? → Where do you live?
Wie heißt du? → What's your name?
Was machst du? → What do you do?

3. Yes/No Question — Verb Position 1

Kommst du aus Ägypten? → Are you from Egypt?
Hast du Kinder? → Do you have children?
Lernst du Deutsch? → Are you learning German?

4. Imperative — Verb Position 1

Komm her! → Come here!
Gehen Sie! → Go!

⚠️ Subordinate Clause (Nebensatz) — Verb at the End

In subordinate clauses (starting with dass, weil, wenn, obwohl), the verb goes to the end.

... weil ich Deutsch lerne.
... dass er morgen kommt.
... wenn du Zeit hast.

Full sentences: - Ich lerne Deutsch, weil ich in Deutschland wohne. - Wenn ich Zeit habe, komme ich zu dir.
