Typical Errors (Typische Fehler)

  • Stellen vs legen: Stellen is used for objects that end up standing; legen for objects that end up lying.
  • Stehen vs liegen: Do not replace stehen with liegen when describing an upright posture.
  • Adding auf after stehen incorrectly (e.g., Er steht auf dem Tisch should be Er sitzt if the intention is to be on the table).
  • Forgetting the correct case: auf den Tisch (accusative) for movement verbs, auf dem Tisch (dative) for static location verbs.
