🎯 Goal: Learn shop vocabulary, adjective declension (Adjektivdeklination) in nominative, accusative, and dative, and practice shopping dialogues.

💡 Tip: Remember that the adjective before a noun takes an ending depending on: - The article type (der/die/das — ein/eine — kein/keine) - The grammatical case (Nominativ, Akkusativ, Dativ)

Exercise 4: Opening and Closing Times 🕐

Read the sign and answer the questions:

Opening Hours: - Mon–Fri: 09:00 – 19:00 - Sat: 09:00 – 16:00 - Sun: closed

  1. How long is the shop open on Monday?
  2. Is the shop open on Saturday at 18:00?
  3. What are the opening hours on Sunday?
  4. On which days is the shop open the longest?

✅ Solution:

  1. On Monday the shop is open from 09:00 to 19:00. That's 10 hours.
  2. No, on Saturday the shop is only open until 16:00. At 18:00 it is closed.
  3. On Sunday the shop is closed. It is not open at all.
  4. From Monday to Friday the shop is open until 19:00 — that's the longest.

Exercise 5: Write About Your Shopping Habits 📝

Answer the following questions in complete sentences (3-5 sentences each):

  1. Wo kaufst du normalerweise ein? (Where do you usually shop?)
  2. Was kaufst du gern ein? (What do you like to buy?)
  3. Wie oft gehst du einkaufen? (How often do you go shopping?)
  4. Kaufst du lieber online oder im Geschäft? (Do you prefer shopping online or in-store?)

✅ Sample Answer:

  1. Wo kaufst du normalerweise ein? I usually shop at the supermarket around the corner. They have everything there: fruit, vegetables, dairy products, and bread. I also like going to the weekly market because the fruit is fresher there.

  2. Was kaufst du gern ein? I like buying fresh food, especially fruit and vegetables. I also like buying clothes, but I only do that once a month.

  3. Wie oft gehst du einkaufen? I go shopping twice a week. On Wednesday I only buy a few things, and on Saturday I do the big weekly shop.

  4. Kaufst du lieber online oder im Geschäft? I prefer shopping in-store because I can see and touch the items. With clothing, I like trying it on. But I often order books online because they're cheaper there.

💡 Extra Tip: To remember adjective declension easily: - With der/die/das (definite article): Nominativ = -e, Akkusativ = -e, Dativ = -en - With ein/eine (indefinite article): the adjective takes the definite article's ending! (ein → -er, eine → -e, ein → -es) - In Dativ always: -en regardless of gender!
