1. 🆕 New Words (Neue Wörter)
First — let's learn words for places and things. Notice the small words before each noun: der, die, das — these are the definite articles (like "the" in English).

🎯 Very important rule: Always learn each word WITH its article! Learn der Tisch, not just Tisch. This is super important in German!
2. 📖 The Rule: Definite Articles (Der, Die, Das)
In German, every noun has a gender. Three genders:

| die 🟥 | Feminine (feminin) | For women and feminine things | 🔴 Red |
| das 🟩 | Neuter (neutral) | For things without a specific gender | 🟢 Green |
Tips to help you remember:
der (🟦 Masculine) — usually: - Days of the week: der Montag, der Dienstag... - Months: der Januar, der Februar... - Men: der Mann, der Vater (father) - Ends with -er, -en, -el: der Computer, der Garten (garden)
die (🟥 Feminine) — usually: - Women: die Frau, die Mutter (mother) - Ends with -e: die Lampe, die Schule, die Tasche, die Blume - Ends with -ung, -heit, -keit, -ion: die Zeitung (newspaper), die Bibliothek
das (🟩 Neuter) — usually: - Children: das Kind (child), das Baby - Young animals: das Pferd (horse)... sometimes - Ends with -chen, -lein: das Mädchen (girl) - Verbs used as nouns: das Essen (food), das Lernen (learning)
⚠️ Warning: In the end — there is no 100% fixed rule. You must memorize the article with the word. Even Germans get it wrong sometimes!

3. ❓ Was ist das? — What is that?
Very important question: Was ist das? (vahs ist dahs) = What is that?
And the answer is always: Das ist... (dahs ist) = That is...

Notice: - ein = with der and das (masculine and neuter) - eine = with die (feminine)

Person A: Hallo! Was ist das? (Hello! What is that?)
Person B: Das ist ein Park. Der Park ist schön. (That is a park. The park is beautiful.)
Person A: Und was ist das? (And what is that?)
Person B: Das ist eine Schule. Die Schule ist groß. (That is a school. The school is big.)
Person A: Ist das ein Café? (Is that a café?)
Person B: Nein, das ist kein Café. Das ist ein Kino. (No, that is not a café. That is a cinema.)
