Two-Way Prepositions (Wechselpräpositionen) in German

🎯 Wechselpräpositionen are prepositions that change their meaning depending on the case — with Dativ they describe a location (static), with Akkusativ they describe a direction (movement).

There are 10 two-way prepositions in German:

🎯 The Golden Rule 🥇

Wo? (Where? — static) → Dativ 🟢 — fixed location, something stationary Wohin? (Where to? — movement) → Akkusativ 🔵 — motion, direction, something changing place

⚠️ Contractions with Articles

When a preposition comes with der / das, they often merge:
